Sunrise, A Ginger Guy and Einstein.

My promise to you this week...no weather chat!

Newsletter #14

Right, I have promised myself I won’t talk about the bloody weather at all in this weeks newsletter……we all know the score…..

So, this past week….

Yep, that is my little girl.

In her pajamas.

And yes, that is sunrise 😊😊

She has started to run into our bedroom recently just as its starting to get light, pleading to go outside and, in her words, see the pretty coloured sky…and who are we to say no to her! It is so good for her, let alone for our mind, body and soul, to get out at first light. To get sunshine in our eyes and to get moving first thing, before the day properly gets going is just the best thing.

Weekly thoughts

I have seen a couple of really powerful examples of Compounding this week, in financial and non-financial examples.

Einstein’s powerful quote about Compound interest.

  1. Compounding, in a non financial sense, can be extremely powerful when we consistently repeat habits that return a small benefit each day…let me explain.

    • Walk 5,000 extra steps a day (easy, that is only approx 3.8km or 40mins) and in 10 days you will have covered a marathon, compounded over a year and that is 33 marathons! How mad is that from just 5000 extra steps a day!

    • Want to loose weight? Hit a 250cal daily deficit and in 2 weeks you could have cut approx 1lb of body fat. Compound that over a year and your 26lb / 12kg down. That is very simply how I lost 12kg in 18 months.

    • Want to read more books? Simply reading 10 pages a day will compound to reading 10 books a year.

Its these types of daily habits, that will compound to amazing things in a years time. Be patient, focused and concentrate on the small gains.

  2. Compound Interest ££££££

I read an amazing piece about compound interest recently, from the book Barefoot Investor. It states in the example, if a 15yr old farm worker saved £5000 / yr (@7% annual growth) for 10yrs and then stopped and let that figure (£70k) compound over the next 40yrs (again at 7% / yr) they would have £1.1mill at retirement. This would be £80k high then their friend who started saving £5000 a month aged 25yr and never stopped until they were 65yr. So 40yrs of saving and still retired with less cash in the bank! I honestly couldn’t get my head around this until I was playing around with the figures in a compound interest calculator earlier on! So the take away, if you have a teenager - get them to start investing in a stable fund asap!!!

(The book uses 10% instead of my 7% figure - but you all get the picture)

  1. Russ Cook - First person to run the entire length of Africa! - My wife and I are obsessed with watching Russ’s YouTube channel where he documents his super human effort to run the length of Africa, which has never been done before. Alongside following Russ, his team give an incredible insight into the countries and cultures they experience along the way. I think Russ has run about 12,000km of the 16,000km journey so far and has raised over £200k for charity. It is a brilliant watch, check it out. https://www.youtube.com/@hardestgeezer

  2. Off the Beaten Track - England and Wales, Martin Dorey. This wonderful adventure book is getting plenty of my attention this week. I have officially had enough of winter and am using this beautiful book to set some goals and plan some big spring / summer adventures 🙂 Buy the book direct from Martin and get it signed! https://martindorey.com/product/off-beaten-track-england-wales/

  3. Twitter - Clint Fisher. If you don’t follow Clint, you are seriously missing out on all things Ag business management from across the pond. Clint gives fascinating insights into numerous Ag topics, but for me the succession and new entrant stuff he features is particularly interesting. He is also the founder of BraintrustAG.com
