Give More Info = Receive Less Phone Calls πŸ‘

Part 2 of my guides on how to make harvest more straight forward for all concerned πŸ‘Œ

Newsletter #16

So this newsletter is straight to the point.

If you want harvest to be as straight forward and hassle free as possible for all concerned, you need to be giving out as much info as possible.

Of course - Do this without overwhelming staff but make no mistakes about it, sharing good information at the beginning of the season will make everyone’s lives that much easier when the work load ramps right up!

Putting information in one place, make it accessible and easy to decipher will, I guarantee, lead to a lot less phone calls. Less phone calls = happier people 😊😊

So, my preferred way of packaging the info harvest staff need, is in the form of a Harvest Manual - given to harvest staff and contractors as a whole physical file, or possible split up into digital elements.

I have made a PDF blueprint of what I think an ideal Harvest Manual should contain - find it here HARVEST MANUAL BLUEPRINT

To summarise the Harvest Manual PDF document, it includes sections such as -

  • Welcome - Initial note welcoming staff, farm history, cropping and machinery lists

  • Condensed H&S policy - focused H&S info for the harvest staff

  • Maps - cropping, risk assessment maps, yards and facilities highlighted

  • Farm culture & standards - what you expect from everyone at harvest time

  • Security - lists of codes etc

  • Non field work jobs - prepared list of jobs for quieter days.

Taking my blueprint and making it specific for your business should give your harvest staff all the info they need over the summer to get on with their jobs and in turn, pick up the phone to you less πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

I hope that has been helpful.

Print out the PDF - give it to your assistant, stick it up in the office, get your Harvest Manual put together and I wish you all the best for harvest 2024
